The Greater Gwinnett Championship returned to Georgia again this year where 81 golf professionals, including Mitsubishi Electric-sponsored Fred Couples, vied for the 2014 title. We sponsored the PGA Champions Tour event for the second year in a row.

World Golf Hall of Fame members and other notable Champions Tour professionals competed for the $1.8 million purse in the 54-hole golf tournament, held from April 14-20 at the prestigious TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga. Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez took the top spot. Jimenez is the 18th player in Champions Tour history to win in his Tour debut and only the third player to have led from start to finish.

The Greater Gwinnett Championship not only brought an exciting event to Gwinnett County for the past two years, but also generated significant charitable and economic impacts in the community. All of the proceeds from the event benefit local charities through the Gwinnett Championship Foundation, Inc. The 2014 benefitting charities include the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation and the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation.

Our relationship with professional golf started in 2007 when our parent company, Mitsubishi Electric, first became a PGA Tour sponsor. We became the title sponsor for the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai two years later, so it was a natural next step for our division to sponsor the 2013 Greater Gwinnett Championship. We are pleased to continue our support of the Champions Tour in Gwinnett County – our home for more than 20 years.
