Now Available – The Advanced Heating Technology White Paper

Advanced Heating Technology White Paper

Winter is over, but it will be back, and our latest White Paper discusses Advanced Heating Technology, which explains why Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems are a smart solution in even the coldest of climates. This new tool reinforces our brand’s leadership and expertise, and will help you provide customers with the best cold weather solutions.

Highlights from this most recent White Paper include information regarding how advanced heating technology works, defrost cycles, cold weather accessories, features, benefits and case studies. VRF systems are an efficient heat source even as low as minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit (ambient). This White Paper explains to readers how this is possible and addresses any misconceptions about the technology.

Project Profile: North End Apartments

In Boston’s historic North End, the combination of extreme cold weather and colonial architecture make bringing comfort systems into old, closed-off buildings a demanding challenge. This is especially difficult while trying to maintain the charm and aesthetic of these structures.

Matt Donaghey – builder and managing director at Cricket Realty Holdings, LLC, Waltham, Massachusetts – was familiar with our products. Because of this, he knew that they would be the ideal fit for the strict demands of his Prince Street apartment building. “For the space, we knew that this system was the only realistic option,” Donaghey said.

Part of that was guaranteeing operation during extreme weather. “Usually, the cold isn’t something we need to consider all that often – most systems can handle our weather – but last year (when Boston experienced record snowfall) that really changed. Now we need something that can be highly efficient, especially in really cold weather.” This was the mindset that brought Donaghey to the decision to select our compact Zoning Comfort Solutions™ with Hyper-Heating INVERTER™ (H2i®) technology.

A once old and inefficient building that relied on unattractive window units for cooling and an ancient boiler for heating now has a clean look and reliable efficiency – not to mention heat! “When you have continuous days of sub-zero weather, you have to have the confidence that the system can continue to work,” Donaghey said of his completed project.

Staying Warm Through Winter Work

Jan 15 Image

December was pleasantly warm, but don’t let that catch you off guard. The cold is on its way – for some of us it’s already here – and as you continue to work through the winter, we are working to help you prepare for the cold weather. Already, our CITY MULTI® and P-Series Hyper-Heat™ outdoor units boast impressive functionality – 100 percent heat capacity as low as 5 degrees Fahrenheit – but protecting the system from the elements makes systems that much more efficient.

Suggestions from our Cold Weather Solutions Guide include:

  • Block the wind – Wind deflectors compatible with the CITY-MULTI Y-series and R2-Series upgrade existing wire guards without sacrificing accessibility, and maintain full airflow while also providing a more efficient defrost cycle.
  • Avoid the ice – Propping outdoor units on cold-weather stands keeps the units out of the snow, guaranteeing the highest performance possible. Similarly, adding a snow hood helps avoid blockage, keeping the unit operating at maximum efficiency.
  • Beat the ice - Base pan heaters help prevent ice buildup on outdoor units. Even without precipitation, areas subject to frequent cold can see ice build up quickly. Keep units running smoothly by keeping them ice-fr

Hollis Montessori School

In any school, the first priority is the students. At Hollis Montessori School (Hollis Montessori), in Hollis, New Hampshire, that philosophy extends to the classroom. Redesigned around our Hyper-Heating INVERTER™ (H2i®) system, Hollis became the country’s first certified Passive House independent school. Our zoned comfort solutions provided a healthy environment and saved on cost – all without sacrificing aesthetics.

Our H2i system helps to handle the extreme fluctuations in northeast weather – from hot and humid to cold and dry. With class out for the summer and the schoolrooms unoccupied, increased humidity can prove costly. Architect David Ely said, “With no systems running…humidity can build up [causing] floor boards [to] warp. We’re mitigating that by running these units on a low setting, offering dehumidification.” Conversely, harsh winters are met with our system’s impressive functionality down to minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit.

That’s a pretty good deal given what energy consultant Jordan Goldman said: “It cost us about 10 percent more to put in passive design, but we expect a payback of just three years.” Indeed, Hollis Montessori now saves 85 percent of what comparable schools spend on energy.

ME on PowerHouse TV

All
Window A/C units, oil furnaces, boilers and forced-air systems have one thing in common: they just don’t do the job anymore. We still see them in homes today because many homeowners do not know there’s a better option out there. The Central BU recently teamed up with Alliant Energy to change that.

In a PowerHouse episode, one of our area sales managers, Andy Senti, and Contractor Tim Stecklein of Colony Heating and Air Conditioning, explain how ductless solves a laundry list of HVAC challenges – both for homeowners who use them and contractors who install them.

Check out the 6-minute segment below to hear what they say separates our technology from the rest of the ductless HVAC pack.

Our “Life-Changing” Product at the Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show

Our H2i® systems have made a splash in the Steel City! Author and former editor of Builder magazine, Boyce Thompson, dubbed the systems as one of “14 Life-Changing Home Products” at the recent Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show.

Our distributor and exhibitor at the Show, Comfort Supply, Inc., provided extra support as Boyce’s presentation sent tradeshow attendees directly to their booth to learn more about the technology and how it “changes the way you interact with the space around you.”

Pittsburgh Magazine and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette took Boyce’s cue, sharing the list of top products with its readers. Watch the video below to hear what the folks on CBS Pittsburgh’s morning show had to say about the products.

We are looking forward to Boyce’s “Top 14 Life-Changing Products” tour to continue this fall. We’ll keep you updated on his tour schedule to see if he’s making a stop near you.
