The grand prize in this year’s DIY Network Blog Cabin™ Giveaway was a masterful 1970s home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Twenty-three million people entered for a chance to call this ‘Blog Cabin’ home, but it is Albert Zaranka and his wife Ellen who will enjoy the comfort and breathtaking views of this hilltop property.

Builder and design manager Dylan Eastman kept what was salvageable of the original one-story ranch – the foundation and the concrete walls, which he wanted to keep exposed. There were two challenges when it came to the HVAC: the cold, concrete interior and the Upper Northwest climate. Our M-Series Hyper-Heat system offered the solution. Zoned cooling and heating affords the Zarankas personalized comfort in each area of their now multi-level home. Our high performing heat pump will deliver that comfort even in Idaho’s sub-zero winter nights.

This is the third consecutive year we have sponsored the Giveaway. In 2013, our M-Series system helped transform an 1890s rundown home into an awe-inspiring waterfront property in Atlantic, North Carolina. In 2014, it was used in the renovation of a 1920s bungalow in Lake Hamilton, Florida.  Each year, Eastman and his team have turned houses that no one wants into homes millions desire – and we’re proud to have been a part of it.

Blog Cabin Sweepstakes Gives Homeowners a Chance to Win a Luxury Getaway!

Family Room
DIY Network’s Blog Cabin is not your average building show. Viewers don’t just watch the renovation of a house on television; they participate in the “You Design It, We Build It, You Could Win It!” process. Viewers vote online on the design features and a panel of expert hosts team up to transform the home. Viewers can then enter a sweepstakes to win the home they’ve helped create!

This year’s home was a 1920s bungalow overlooking Lake Hamilton, Florida. The house had water damage, outdated furniture and an aging furnace system. Project manager Dylan Eastman worked to incorporate the house’s original architecture and materials in the renovation while opening up the space and upgrading the technology. The HVAC system was upgraded to a Mitsubishi Electric M-Series system. This allows the home to retain its charming touches, but transforming into a comfortable and modern space.

M-Series Helps DIY Network’s “Blog Cabin” Turn Blah Into Awe

Every year, the DIY Network airs a one-hour special hosted by tool expert and TV personality Chris Grundy called “Blog Cabin.” Based on the simple idea of “You Design It, We Build It, You Could Win It!” the annual episode follows the renovation process of a home that’s in need of a major overhaul. After asking Internet October 7_Blog Cabin Imagefollowers to vote on the design features, expert hosts of six of the network’s hit TV shows team up to transform the dilapidated building into an ideal home or vacation getaway, which one lucky sweepstakes winner gets to call their own. We joined in on the fun this year in bringing a rundown 1890s home back to life.

Located in Atlantic, N.C., this year’s Blog Cabin sits on three-acres of waterfront property. Built more than a century ago, the home was not only severely outdated but weather-beaten and damaged by termites and water intrusion as well. To add to the challenge, the home was built one room at a time, so the layout was choppy, the rooms were undersized and the 7-foot-high ceilings made the space feel like a shoebox.

October 7_Blog Cabin Image 2The Blog Cabin team selected our M-Series systems to compliment the home’s new innovative and inspiring makeover and design. Before Blog Cabin stepped in, the master and guest bedrooms were each cooled by a single window air-conditioning unit. Now with our ductless systems, the new occupants will breathe cleaner, fresher air and be able to live comfortably all year with an HVAC system that’s far more energy-efficient than the window units or a traditional ducted system. And, as an added bonus, our M-Series system allowed the team to convert the old and unused screened-in side porch to a cozy, serene sunroom where the homeowners and their guests can relax and enjoy looking out at the beautiful scenic landscape.

Randomly selected out of the 18,649,549 entries, the winner – and now the owner – of this year’s Blog Cabin was announced during last Friday’s episode. To see the transformation and just how lucky the new homeowner is, take the Blog Cabin 2013 Tour at www.diynetwork.com.
