september27_2017

As buildings become more sophisticated, facility managers and owners can manage the resulting complexity, while increasing efficiency and lowering costs, by establishing a single point of control that supports building operations.

Our latest white paper discusses the many options for commercial building integrations and how to make appropriate selections. This paper explains why building integration is desired by today’s building owners and facility managers, and also dives into the various integration styles, beginning with the most rudimentary, and working up to the incredibly advanced.

Southwest Business Unit Supports Local Food Banks After Hurricane Harvey

sept2520171

Each year, the Southwest Business Unit dedicates two days to a worthy charity within its community, and this year was especially important to them. After Hurricane Harvey devastated the state of Texas earlier this month, our staff members volunteered their time helping families in need at local food banks.

On Sept. 13, staff members from the Dallas office spent time preparing 8,725 healthy meals for families at the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas. On Sept. 14, staff members from the Houston office helped produce and distribute 19,890 nutritious meals for senior citizens at the Houston Food Bank, the largest food bank in the nation. We’re deeply saddened about the devastation that Hurricane Harvey caused in Texas but we’re honored to have been able to lend a hand in helping the local families heal giving them a warm meal.

On Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont, sits the new 2017 DIY Network Ultimate Retreat, a wooded ranch-style home that offers incredible lakeside views and superior personalized comfort. This year, the DIY Network renovated an outdated 1960s two-bedroom, two-bath home into a tranquil yet sophisticated getaway. After filling the home with a mix of contemporary and vintage elements, licensed contractor and DIY Network star Jason Cameron created a vacation home that expresses a traditional atmosphere with a modern edge.

The project team selected our Zoned Comfort Solutions™, featuring our Hyper-Heating INVERTER® technology, to give the occupants comfort throughout every square foot of the house. They took advantage of our ductless and ducted units, and were able to match an ideal style for each room. Styles included our wall- and floor-mounted, ceiling-cassette and the multi-position ducted air handler. The project team also selected our programmable controller app, kumo cloud™, to provide the homeowner reliable personalized comfort in any kind of weather.

Now with tremendous energy efficiency and custom comfort, this retrofitted home is relaxing all year long. To read more about our cooling and heating technology in the Ultimate Retreat, check out our dedicated website to the project.

To watch the renovation process, check out the DIY Network every Monday night in August at 8:00 p.m. ET on. The renovation will start with the kitchen and family room, followed by the master bedroom and exterior. The whole-house renovation will air on Mon., Aug. 28 at 8:00 p.m. ET. You can also read about it in the September issue of HGTV magazine.

VRF Eligible for Massachusetts Clean Energy Center Rebates

july12_2017

As part of their commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the state, Massachusetts expanded its Clean Heating and Cooling rebate program to include VRF products in all building applications. Many of our VRF systems qualify as part of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s (MassCEC) five-year, $30 million investment in clean heating technology.

A few of our VRF systems were added to the list of rebate-eligible products because of their esteemed reputation for efficiency. According to MassCEC Program Manager Josh Kessler, heating accounts for around 30 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions in Massachusetts. He said, “VRF is a high-performing technology. “There have been a lot of advances in recent years and we want to increase awareness of what the technology looks like.”

The rebates cover the incremental costs associated with upgrading to VRF from a traditional system or incorporating VRF in new building projects. A MassCEC qualified, pre-approved VRF project can earn a rebate between $800 per ton and $2,000 per ton up to $250,000 depending on the project type, the system’s heating capacity and the product’s heat recovery capability.

We will continue to work with MassCEC to provide world-class clean heating technology to residents and business owners throughout the state. Eric Dubin, Senior Director of Utilities and Performance Construction, Mitsubishi Electric, said, “Clean heat is one of the few places where reducing our carbon footprint can also save people a lot of money.”

For more information on this program, check out the MassCEC website here.

Working With The Next Generation of Building Scientists

may24_2017

From April 22 ‒ May 2, we were able to dedicate our time and expertise to college students who share the same passion as we do: building science.

As a sponsor of the U.S Department of Energy’s (DOE) Race to Zero Student Design Competition, we worked side-by-side with students to help inspire them to become the next generation of building science professionals, through designing affordable yet sustainable homes.

The DOE’s Race to Zero Student Design Competition is an annual competition that challenges future architects, engineers, construction managers and entrepreneurs. The competition allows students to gain the skills and experience they need to start careers in building science, while rewarding them for inventing solutions to current real-world problems.

During a time where cost-effective, high-performing homes are becoming not only popular but also indispensable, we are honored that we could contribute to a competition that cares deeply about educating students about the importance of energy-efficient home design.
