Operation FINALLY HOME: Our First Donation for a Hero!

Last month, we were honored to donate our residential systems to a true American hero, and mark the beginning of our official partnership with Operation FINALLY HOME!

The new home belongs to Staff Sergeant Ray Coffey, who was forced to retire after several insurgent attacks left him with severe injuries, following two deployments to Iraq. Ray returned home with a brain injury that required the temperature in his family’s home be kept so low that they had to wear heavy jackets while indoors.

Henley Homes Inc., Liberty Hill, Texas, built the custom and mortgage-free home for Ray and his family.

With the installation of our systems, Henley Homes Inc. was able to provide both Ray and his family with an environment that suits each of their needs.

“In Ray’s situation when you have migraine headaches, PTSD, he needed a dark room that we could get very cold. Mitsubishi stepped up and gave us individual room air conditioners,” said Gary Henley, co-owner of Henley Homes, Inc.

Ray’s incredible story, as well as footage of the home dedication, was picked up by broadcasting stations in Austin and Philadelphia. One anchor, Jennifer Kendall, anchor, Fox News, had it right when she said, “That means for the first time in a long time one American hero can live comfortably in his home of the brave.”

Ray’s full story can be seen here on My FOX Austin.

We’d like to offer a special thanks to Casa Mechanical Services for installing the equipment. We wish Ray and his family the best in their new home and look forward to our continued partnership with Operation FINALLY HOME in the years to come!

We first blogged about our official partnership with Operation FINALLY HOME last Veterans Day.

The Most & Least Energy Expensive States

August 19_Most and Least Expensive States For Energy Costs ImageEver wonder the energy cost differentials between state lines? Differences in energy prices can have a big impact on monthly costs for homes and businesses. ECOBUILDING Pulse recently released an interactive heat map of the U.S., which shows where each state falls in terms of total energy costs. The map ranks the states based on the monthly energy consumption averages and the electricity, natural gas and fuel costs recorded in the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s 2012 Electric Sales, Revenue, and Average Price and WalletHub’s Most and Least Energy Expensive States reports.

Colorado, Washington state and Montana currently lead the nation in lowest total energy costs. New England states are some of the most expensive and Hawaii has some of the highest energy costs in the country, landing in the lists of top five states with the highest electricity and natural gas prices.

You may be surprised by the drastic differences in energy costs from state to state. The report shows that electricity costs four times more in some states than others, and natural gas costs nearly six times more in Hawaii (the most energy expensive state) than in Colorado (the state with the lowest energy costs).
