Operation Finally Home – The Carlton Family

august16_2017

In June, U.S. Army, Chief Warrant Officer Two, Daniel Carlton and his family were welcomed into their new home in New Braunfels, Texas. The home was built and gifted by Operation FINALLY HOME (OFH), a non-profit organization focused on building mortgage-free homes for veterans.

During Carlton’s second tour in Afghanistan, he sustained a gunshot wound with shrapnel in his left hand and suffered various hand fractures. In November 2012, Carlton was injured by two improvised explosive devices (IED), which resulted in the amputation of his left leg above the knee, loss of use of his right leg, hand fractures, burns and a traumatic brain injury. Carlton honorably retired after serving more than 15 years of service in the Army. Due to the severity of injuries he sustained, Carlton requires basic medical services, such as occasional X-rays and work with his prosthetics on a regular basis.

To make the Carlton’s new mortgage-free house feel like home, he and his family needed a superior cooling and heating system. Our Zoned Comfort Solutions™ allows Carlton and his family to be comfortable in each space of their home, making comfort personal.

We are honored that our products have had a part in the OFH initiative since 2014 and we’re excited to welcome the Carlton family home.

VRF Eligible for Massachusetts Clean Energy Center Rebates

july12_2017

As part of their commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the state, Massachusetts expanded its Clean Heating and Cooling rebate program to include VRF products in all building applications. Many of our VRF systems qualify as part of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s (MassCEC) five-year, $30 million investment in clean heating technology.

A few of our VRF systems were added to the list of rebate-eligible products because of their esteemed reputation for efficiency. According to MassCEC Program Manager Josh Kessler, heating accounts for around 30 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions in Massachusetts. He said, “VRF is a high-performing technology. “There have been a lot of advances in recent years and we want to increase awareness of what the technology looks like.”

The rebates cover the incremental costs associated with upgrading to VRF from a traditional system or incorporating VRF in new building projects. A MassCEC qualified, pre-approved VRF project can earn a rebate between $800 per ton and $2,000 per ton up to $250,000 depending on the project type, the system’s heating capacity and the product’s heat recovery capability.

We will continue to work with MassCEC to provide world-class clean heating technology to residents and business owners throughout the state. Eric Dubin, Senior Director of Utilities and Performance Construction, Mitsubishi Electric, said, “Clean heat is one of the few places where reducing our carbon footprint can also save people a lot of money.”

For more information on this program, check out the MassCEC website here.

Working With The Next Generation of Building Scientists

may24_2017

From April 22 ‒ May 2, we were able to dedicate our time and expertise to college students who share the same passion as we do: building science.

As a sponsor of the U.S Department of Energy’s (DOE) Race to Zero Student Design Competition, we worked side-by-side with students to help inspire them to become the next generation of building science professionals, through designing affordable yet sustainable homes.

The DOE’s Race to Zero Student Design Competition is an annual competition that challenges future architects, engineers, construction managers and entrepreneurs. The competition allows students to gain the skills and experience they need to start careers in building science, while rewarding them for inventing solutions to current real-world problems.

During a time where cost-effective, high-performing homes are becoming not only popular but also indispensable, we are honored that we could contribute to a competition that cares deeply about educating students about the importance of energy-efficient home design.

Diamond Leadership Conference 2017

Late last month, we held our 2017 Diamond Leadership Conference in Tucson, Arizona. Our theme for this year’s conference focused on three key words: vision, dedication and success. On our first day, we shared this video with the attendees, highlighting the first word of our theme: vision. Here at Mitsubishi Electric, we strive every day to become a leader in the HVAC industry, and through our efforts to do so we’ve had the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships with our distributors and rep firms. Without them, we couldn’t achieve our vision, and most importantly, we wouldn’t be able to provide our customers with comfort.

We want to thank our distributors and rep firms for their loyalty and commitment to Mitsubishi Electric and our products! We’re excited to see where the next year takes us. If you’d like to watch the videos from days two and three of the conference, click here: dedication and success.

Providing Comfort on the Road to Recovery

feb28

In late 2016, Elite Diamond Contractor™, Augusta Fuel, Augusta, Maine, donated labor to install our Zoned Comfort Solutions™ in The Maine Chance Lodge & Retreat, in Belgrade, Maine. The retreat is a part of The Travis Mills Foundation, a nonprofit organization formed by Retired United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, and dedicates its time to assisting combat-injured veterans. The foundation created the retreat to let veterans and their families visit and relax year-round in a stress-free environment after leaving treatment at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland.

The foundation bought and refurbished a historic mansion built by cosmetics pioneer, Elizabeth Arden, in the late 1920s. The almost 9,000-square-foot property was remodeled and divided into family suites that will be available to veterans and their families. The retreat is scheduled to open in the summer of 2017, ready to provide families with the care and comfort they need.

We are honored that our products can support the efforts of the Travis Mills Foundation, and are deeply grateful that we can provide comfort to those who serve to keep our homes safe everyday.

Now Available ‒ K-12 Educational Facilities White Paper

jan24

It’s the start of a new year which means school is back in session. That means it’s perfect timing to read our latest white paper, which discusses how to face HVAC challenges that may affect in K-12 educational facilities. Often HVAC challenges in the educational environment involve occupant comfort and air control. Other concerns to K-12 educational facilities, though, include: stringent air quality requirements (especially pertaining to ventilation), the need for low noise levels, a variety of comfort needs to meet a variety of spaces and occupants, and a preference for simple maintenance.

Our white paper explains why Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) zoning technology is a smart solution for these challenges. It highlights how VRF offers industry-leading efficiencies, integration with ventilation systems, advanced filtration systems, whisper-quiet operation and year-round performance. This white paper explains to readers how solutions are possible with VRF and addresses any misconceptions about the technology.
